If you have any doubts about the effectiveness of TM (Transcendental Meditation), just look at David Lynch, one of its major proponents. Lynch built a brilliant career on moody and eccentric (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet et al), and last night at a gorgeous event hosted by Pamela and Jeferey Levy in Beverly Hills, he was gregarious, smiling, practically luminous! In case anyone had any doubts, backup was provided by NIH researcher Norman Rosenthal, MD (author of Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation, Tarcher Penguin), Xavier Guzman (principal of New Village magnet school), actor Ben Foster (Six Feet Under), Lois Lee (founder of Children of the Night, the nonprofit that takes in street kids) and more, all expounding on the success of TM with school-age children and returning troops. The San Francisco Quiet Time program has been notably successful in their school system, and with our dropout rate in troubled schools at 50 percent, it’s at least worth a shot.
