For the Love of Beauty

Many of us take vacations in August—but even if you’re not planning on leaving town, take a moment to create space for beauty and harmony in your daily routine. By taking time to enhance your everyday environment, you’re creating a balance that will sustain you throughout the year.

Focusing your will is the task, as Mars in Taurus challenges Saturn in Leo 8/1-2. On the positive side, this transit presents an opportunity to concentrate on using your will to accomplish your vision. The flipside is that Mars/Saturn sometimes creates frustration or feelings of blockage. Use this transit to recognize and tear down self-created barriers instead of blaming superficial external forces that appear to be in your way.

With the new moon at 12º Leo on 8/4 at 8:05 pm, it’s time to celebrate your inner child, the source of your creativity, spontaneity and enthusiasm. Bring a sense of play into your life by being willing to let go of seriousness and self-consciousness. If you take time to nurture yourself on this level, you may be surprised to find a willing child who wants to come out and play.

Letting go of judgment is the theme when Venus in Virgo squares Pluto in Sagittarius 8/9-10. The tendency with Venus/Pluto is to be attached to outcome and to being right. Since Venus represents the heart, hard aspects to Pluto challenge us to keep our hearts open. We close down our hearts and restrict our natural expression of love when we move into judgment.

When Mars in Taurus sextiles Uranus in Pisces from 8/12-16, you’re being asked to push the envelope a bit. Mars/Uranus energy is very helpful when you’re trying to be daring or audacious in your work or home life. Let these planets help you to take risks and move beyond what you once thought was impossible.

With Jupiter in Libra trine Neptune in Aquarius 8/12-22, it’s an excellent time for vision-questing, as both planets are expansive and associated with developing a broader perspective. Vision quests are opportunities to break out of the mold of everyday thinking. By evoking and fostering our imagination, we access deeper layers of our minds to bring forth an expanded vision.

Now that Mercury in Leo goes direct 8/15 at 8:44 pm, the emphasis is on using the creative and playful aspects of the mind to construct your own reality. Use the power of imagination and play to generate new possibilities that far exceed the concrete mind’s dualistic “this or that” mentality.

Venus’ occupation of Libra 8/16-9-11 gives you an opportunity to express your creativity and passion by manifesting beauty and harmony in your world. This is a wonderful time to reconnect to the feminine through art, music, dance or design, and to commune with the natural world’s harmonious vibrations.

The full Moon at 26 ºAquarius on 8/19 at 10:54 am presents an opportunity to learn how to be emotionally present to others while maintaining your individuality and center. The Aquarius full moon will also heighten your desire to find the “tribe” or community that supports and nourishes your vision.

It’s time to harvest our creativity as the Sun moves into the sign of Virgo on 8/22 at 5:46 am. The Virgo principle involves analyzing and improving upon the creative output generated in Leo through discernment and efficiency. Your job during the sign of Virgo is to perfect your innate gifts so they are ready to share with others.

With Mars in Leo square Neptune in Aquarius 8/25-30, we gain a deeper understanding of the power of surrender. In the past, surrendering personal will was seen as a sign of weakness and submission. But in the new millennium, surrendering to divine will is actually an empowering experience. As we get our personalities out of the way, we invite grace into our lives by allowing Spirit to support us in co-creative relationships that are nurturing, empowering and fulfilling.
