Most balanced dietary guidelines include fruit, vegetables and whole grains, but some days it’s a challenge to feed our bodies in the best way and we end up indulging in something slightly less nutritious. Admittedly it’s difficult to get a full serving from just a few bites of anything, but Alter Eco has devised a delicious way to sneak a few extra grains into your diet. Quinoa Midnight Crunch dark chocolate bars are rich, crunchy treats reminiscent of the Nestlé’s Crunch bars of my childhood, only about a zillion times better. Quinoa, sometimes referred to as a “protein powerhouse,” has been grown in the Andes Mountains of South America for more than 5,000 years and is just beginning to make a splash in the United States. This particular bar is made with organic, Fair Trade chocolate and quinoa from farming cooperatives in Bolivia, and is 61 percent cocoa. Alter Eco makes other bars, notably Dark Chocolate Twist with Crystalized Orange Peel, just in case you skipped your vitamin C today. Can a Kale Bar be far behind?
