Get up… so you can get down

There’s new movement in morning workouts that’s literally winning raves. Matt Brimer and Radha Agrawal, founders of Daybreaker, have brought their New York party to Los Angeles, shaking things up for morning people intent on celebrating the dawn of a new day.
A Daybreaker party has everything revelers want in a nightclub experience, from top DJs to performance artists, acrobats, light shows and trendy ambience to the opportunity to shake it with their peeps. But hey, this party’s at 7 a.m. and coffee and fresh fruit replace the booze.
According to Brimer, Daybreaker is a party with a purpose—to help attendees begin their day on a natural high. “It’s a great way to start off the day with a bang, but without alcohol. What’s also exciting about Daybreaker is that it fosters a community of professionals, entrepreneurs and artists, where everybody can be creative and exchange ideas. There’s a physical aspect, but there’s also social interaction that encourages camaraderie, self-expression, wellness and immediacy. People go off to work with brows slightly dewed from moving their bodies with reckless abandon, sans alcohol, but with so much spirit.”
Brimer and Agrawal literally woke up into the idea last fall over a falafel sandwich at 2 a.m. in New York City. They realized that the wear and tear of the night owl lifestyle was leaving them drained rather than energized. From there, they decided to rethink the clubbing experience and transform it into an exhilarating way to start the workday. They found a hot New York venue, hired a DJ and invited their friends to rise to the occasion of kicking off Daybreaker in December 2013. San Francisco followed a few months later. Last month, 400 people got out of bed at 6:30 am to start their morning in Venice with L.A.’s first Daybreaker.
Don’t sweat missing the first one; once-a-month pop ups are on the horizon. “We want everyone to leave with a goofy smile on their face and to bring that joy into the rest of their day,” says Daybreaker rep Katie Maute.
