Santa Monica is ideal for riding a bike, whether for pleasure, errands or simple transportation. Don’t have one? Very soon that won’t be an obstacle. With City Council’s approval of a new bikeshare system last November, the city is rolling full speed ahead toward the late-2015 launch of Breeze, a 500-bicycle smart-bike sharing system.
An anticipated 65–75 lender docks will be located in Santa Monica, with five stations in Venice, and on-board computers will lock, unlock and track the bikes via GPS. The hope is that Breeze eventually will link up with an integrated regional system throughout greater Los Angeles.
Keep an eye out in July for bright green bikes zipping around town as system testing gets underway in preparation for launch.
