With the recent glut of online dating sites, meeting other singles is as easy as a few simple clicks—but how do you meet potential partners with whom you’ll actually click? Thanks to “conscious dating” websites like EcoDater and YogaConnect, connecting with like-minded singles is starting to get a lot easier.

Intrigued? We tracked down three user favorites that just [ital: might] help you manifest that New Year’s resolution of finding love in 2011:

LoveColors [update 12-14, site may no longer be functional] On this unique site, “What’s your favorite color, baby?” isn’t just a pickup line. Professional psychic Pamala Oslie launched the Santa Barbara-based site last September as a way for singles to connect based on aura compatibility. “Users sign on and take our color questionnaire to find out their colors, along with all the other basic profile questions,” shares Oslie. “People will say, ‘It’s like you’ve followed me around my whole life—this is so true. I’m such a [insert color here]!”
Though the site caters to singles of all ages, the majority of users tend to be between 35 and 65 years old. According to Oslie, humans have numerous bands of color in their aura; while the outer layers are always in flux, the inner layers stay constant and reflect personality and priorities. She personally designed LoveColors’ 13-question Myers/Briggs-style quiz to help users determine their own colors and pinpoint possible color matches—or clashes. “Violets and tans are the exact opposite: violets have big dreams, while tans are very practical and logical,” says Oslie. “Reds and blues also tend to repel—reds are very physical and sexual, so they don’t like the nurturing, weepy side of a blue.”

Oslie says that the questionnaire also helps weed out those who aren’t as serious about their search. “Because our questionnaire is more thorough, it discourages those people who just want to hook up,” she says. “People are sincere about having authentic life partners.”

Planet Earth Singles
If “green” talk turns you on, look no further than Planet Earth Singles for your eco-friendly fix! When joining the site, members classify themselves on a scale from “Dark Forest Green” to “Not Green”—and it sounds like the vast majority of members identify on the former side of the spectrum. “It’s amazing: a lot of our members live in green houses with solar panels and composting toilets. We really attract people who live compatibly with the environment,” shares Jill Crosby, who started the site in 2006. “People will exchange information and swap ideas with each other, too, on wind power and which solar companies to use.”

Along with green-minded singles, the site also caters to vegetarians, raw foodies, animal rights activists and yogis. Because of the site’s interest-oriented nature, Crosby says that people often end up making platonic connections as well as love matches: “A lot of people come to the site looking for love, and wind up meeting their best friends that they never would have met otherwise.”

Spiritual Singles
A sister site to Planet Earth Singles, Spiritual Singles has been around since 1998, when founder Crosby was living in San Diego and sought a meaningful alternative to standard dating websites. “I was single and using Matchmaker.com, which was popular at the time,” remembers Crosby. “I was meeting mainstream guys with whom I had nothing in common; I was bored.” Thirteen years later, Spiritual Singles now has a thriving database of approximately 57,000 members, reports Crosby, who identify on all spiritual levels from Baha’I to Rastafarian to Buddhism—though “Conscious/Spiritual” is the most popular selection.

Upon joining the site, members can opt to fill out multiple-choice quizzes, essays, a compatibility test and the popular “Sexual IQ” (or “intimacy quotient”) meter. Those who are willing to go a step further can also post a video; says Crosby, “People love the videos because they can see the potential partner’s smile, hear their voice, and observe their mannerisms.”

As far as success stories, Crosby says there are hundreds and points locally to a happily married couple in Oceanside, as well as another couple who recently started a retreat center together in Europe. “The power of two is stronger than the power of one—the vibration is amplified. People come together and do amazing things.”
